Project Goals

With a desire to refresh their basement, our client turned to Chervin’s Designer Services for support with furniture layout, selections, and draperies. Their main goal was to create a comfortable, family-friendly space while incorporating a cherished rug from their time living in Africa.

Having purchased a few furnishings from us in the past, our client returned to Chervin Furniture & Design when it was time to reimagine their basement and entryway. Without a specific vision, they relied on Karen, our design specialist, to bring the spaces together with comfort, functionality, and style. The one request was to incorporate an area rug from Africa—an item full of personal history. With this as the starting point, Karen designed a warm, layered basement lounge and bar area, perfect for family time or entertaining, along with a welcoming front entry that ties into the overall design. The result is a relaxed and inviting retreat, grounded in personal touches and thoughtful design.

01

Lounge

Anchored by the meaningful area rug from Africa, the basement lounge is a spacious and comfortable gathering space for family and friends. A large Bernhardt sectional and matching ottoman offer ample seating, with a generously sized Bernhardt cocktail table and end tables completing the central lounge arrangement. For moments of quiet relaxation, two Fjords recliners face the sectional, with a Universal end table nestled between them to complete the reading corner. A sofa table and pair of table lamps enhance the ambiance, while custom floor-to-ceiling draperies add softness and warmth, creating a cozy, cohesive feel throughout the lounge.

02

Game Room & Bar

Adjacent to the lounge, the game room and bar are designed for fun and connection. A striking snooker table serves as the focal point, with a sleek Vogel recliner in the corner offering a comfortable break between games. The custom curved bar is paired with six Amisco bar stools, each thoughtfully customized with matte metal legs and softly curved backs upholstered in a creamy fabric. Together, these elements create the ultimate hang-out space—stylish, functional, and perfect for entertaining guests.

Front Entry

The front entry sets the tone for the entire home with a statement-making Handstone console table. Featuring curved black metal legs and a warm, rustic wood top, this piece adds character and charm to the space. It’s both beautiful and practical—ideal for welcoming guests or grabbing essentials on the way out the door—while seamlessly tying into the contemporary, comfortable aesthetic of the rest of the home.
